Field notes
Add 10% for straight-lay planks and 15% for diagonals, long boards, or a room with lots of jogs — offcuts pile up fast. Buy it all in one lot and let it acclimate in the room for a few days before installing, or seasonal movement opens gaps. Keep a spare unopened box; matching a discontinued run years later is nearly impossible.
Measure the room length × width for square footage, add 10% for waste, then divide by the coverage printed on each box. A 200 ft² room needs about 220 ft² of flooring.
How much waste should I add for flooring?
Add 10% for straight-lay planks in a simple rectangular room, and 15% for diagonal patterns, angled rooms, or long boards that produce more offcuts.
